Abstract
The present prospective study was conducted in Department of Orthodontics, Aim Shams University which aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Carrière Distalizer in the treatment adult patients with Class II malocclusion.
A sample of 10 participants was recruited from the outpatient clinic of the Orthodontic Department at the Faculty of Dentistry Aim Shams University. All patients required maxillary molar distalization as part of their orthodontic treatment plan.
The simple design of Carrière Distalizer allowed its easy bonding. The Essix appliance was used for mandibular anchorage.
Banding of the first maxillary molars followed by impression for Essix appliance fabrication was done.
The dentoskeletal and soft tissue effects of Carrière Distalizer were assessed by superimposition of the pre and posttreatment digital lateral cephalometric radiograph.
The canine and molar movements as well as the rate of maxillary molar distalization were assessed three- dimensionally by superimposing 3D virtual digital models.
The treatment time was 9 months and the follow up visits were every 4 weeks, digital models were produced using Intra-oral scanner to evaluate the rate of distal movement of the maxillary molars by superimposition initial model and each successive model.
