Abstract

The present study designed to illustrate and to give proper answers for the following aspects:-
(1) To what extent can Moringa oleifera Lam. (Leaves and roots) extracts affect Ehrlich ascites carcinoma mice compared with normal ones?
(2) The possibility of supplying Moringa oleifera Lam, beside the basic nutrients, as a health promoting or disease preventing agents.
(3) An attempt to characterize and correlate between the used Moringa oleifera Lam. extracts and their effect on growth parameters together with some organs weight and some biochemical characters such as liver and kidney functions in albino mice, during 28 days long.
 In respect to moisture content of used Moringa oleifera Lam. resources, the highest value recorded by roots followed seeds and ended by leaves.
 Roots had the highest total carbohydrate content followed by seeds and leaves respectively.
 Leaves have the highest value of protein content (36%), while, roots were relatively lowest in protein content (17 %).
 Leaves of both aqueous and ethyl acetate extracts contained high percent of phenolic compounds comparing with roots extracts, but ethyl acetate extracts of roots has highest activity in DPPH comparing with aqueous extracts.
 During the analysis of active compound by the HPLC for roots and leaves both aqueous and ethyl acetate extracts of the Moringa oleifera, it was found to contain a high percentage of flavonoids. In the case of phenolic compounds, the aqueous roots extract of Moringa recorded a high percentage of phenolic compounds followed by ethyl acetate extracts of leaves.
 When testing the Moringa oleifera extracts against the cytotoxicity of breast cancer cells (MCF7), A high inhibition ratio for ethyl acetate extracts of roots up to 94 % followed by leaves was observed up to 69% at 400 μg / ml concentration compared with aqueous extracts.
 After 10 days on feeding mice beside oral Moringa oleifera extraction, it is clear that the both extractions of leaves and roots improved the unsatisfying growth weight comparing with the other two control ones.
 The liver of cancer mice, inducted with Ehrlich ascites carcinoma, had a significant increase in the mean liver weight value, comparing with that of mice feed on basal diet (-ve control) and the other four treatments. While, the other organs (kidney and heart) weight still around the normal values.
 The results show that oral administration of Moringa oleifera extracts increase hemoglobin percent and red blood cells, in addition to immunosuppressive therapy with increase in white blood cells and platelets in Ehrlich ascites carcinoma mice.
 Data show significant decrement of plasma AST for all groups (Ehrlich mice) exposed to oral dose of leaves and roots extractions compared with EST group and EST-corn oil group. Plasma AST level in mice under investigation, significantly decreases by 17% (aqueous leaves extracts), 31% (aqueous roots extracts) and 13% (ethyl acetate leaves extracts) and 29% (ethyl acetate roots extracts) comparing with EST group and EST-corn oil group. Results supported that, Moringa oleifera extracts may have an anti-carcinogenic effect. The consumed Moringa oleifera extracts reduced AST/ALT significantly. Moreover, the level of plasma urea in mice treated with the investigated extracts revealed, significant increases by 58% (EST group), 66% (EST-corn oil), furthermore, decrement due to oral administration with aqueous and ethyl acetate roots, aqueous and ethyl acetate leaves compared with EST group and EST- corn oil control group.
 Data of plasma creatinine illustrate that non-Ehrlich mice was still around the same values until the end of the experiment. In contrary, after 10 days (after induction with Ehrlich cells), the level of plasma creatinine increased significantly in EST (control +ve group) and the other treatments. Moreover, the data show, significant increase by 21 % (EST group), 70% (EST-corn oil) comparing with Non-EST. Furthermore, the decrement of the ethyl acetate roots, leaves and aqueous leaves and roots extracts.
 Results show an increment in SOD and CAT plasma enzymes content until the end of the experiment.
 Data show that non-Ehrlich mice still around the same values until the end of the experiment at 28 days. Otherwise, after induction with Ehrlich carcinoma, the level of serum CRP significantly increase follows by decrement during treated mice with both Moringa oleifera extracts until reached ≥ 6 comparing with EST and EST-corn oil which recorded 24 mg/L.
