Abstract

. Field experiment:
The present study was suggested as an attempt to investigate the effects of Pink Pigmented Facultative Methylotrophic Bacteria (PPFM) dipping and foliar spray on vegetative growth and yield of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.).
Two field experiments were carried out during the summer seasons of 2014 and 2015 at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University.
This experiment was laid out in a split plot design with three replicates. The dipping seedlings were assigned in the main plots, whereas foliar spray was distributed in the sub plots.
5.2. The obtained results can be summarized as follows:
5.2.1. Vegetative characteristics:
The vegetative growth of eggplant responded positively to dipping seedlings in PPFM which gave the highest values of growth parameters, i.e. number of leaves per plant and leaf area, in the two seasons as compared with control (dipping in water).
The application of PPFM as foliar spray, reveal that PPFM foliar spray increased significantly plant growth (plant length, leaf number, haulm fresh weight, leaf fresh & dry weight, and stem fresh weight) in the two seasons as compared with the other studied foliar application treatments.
The interaction between foliar application of dipping seedlings in PPFM and PPFM foliar spray with all concentrations gave the highest values of growth parameters, i.e. plant length, leaf number and haulm fresh weight, during the two growing seasons as compared with either individual foliar application or control plants.
5.2.2. Chemical constituents:
In general, the vegetative growth of eggplant responded positively to dipping seedlings with PPFM gave the highest values of chemical constituents, i.e. nitrogen & potassium concentration in leaf and total protein in fruit, in the two seasons as compared with control (dipping in water).
Respecting the foliar application of PPFM foliar spray, the obtained data reveal that the effect of PPFM foliar spray increased significantly chemical constituents (potassium concentration in leaf and vitamin ”C” in fruit) in the two seasons as compared with the other studied foliar application treatments.
The interaction between foliar application of dipping seedlings in PPFM and PPFM foliar spray with all concentrations gave the highest values of potassium concentration in leaf, during the two growing seasons as compared with either individual foliar application or control plants.
5.2.3. Yield characteristics:
The dipping seedlings with PPFM on eggplant, generally insignificant effect with all tested treatments on yield characteristics in two seasons as compared with control (dipping in water).
Respecting the foliar application of PPFM foliar spray, the obtained data reveal that the effect of PPFM foliar spray increased significantly on yield characteristics (fruit number, yield per plant and total yield) in the two seasons as compared with the other studied foliar application treatments.
The interaction between foliar application of dipping seedlings in PPFM and PPFM foliar spray with all concentrations gave the highest values of on yield characteristics, i.e. fruit length, fruit number, yield per plant and total yield, during the two growing seasons as compared with either individual foliar application or control plants.
Conclusions: It is recommended to add PPFMs vaccine with eggplant seedlings Soma cultivars immediately before transplanting and repeated after 30 days of transplanting the seedlings around the crown area (20 liters /fed) and Sprayed PPFMs after 30, 60, 90 days of transplanting (20 liters / fed) to obtain the best yield and quality of the crop in field.
