Abstract
The Research is divided into three parts the first part for the important monuments Catalogue and two of them for the content .
it begins with the Introduction and Preface about Mesopotamian Religious and Mythology then the Reason of the carved of this signs and symbols on Various ancient monuments for Mesopotamia.
The Monuments Catalogue
The catalogue includes number of all monuments and the place where it preserved the material, the period, and the place of the discovery, finally the description and the comment .
The researcher try to give perfect study about this signs and symbols of gods in ancient Mesopotamia from the Sumerian period then the accadian period, modern sumerian period , Babylonian , kassite Isen and larsa periods till the new Assyrian period using the various monuments
The Content
This content divided into two parts
first part
Signs in various types of some Gods in ancient Mesopotamia
the first chapter about Signs and tools of some Gods in ancient Mesopotamia Such as : Horned Cap , Flask , stick with double rings , light, lamp, omega sign , cross, three and seven dots …etc.
the second chapter about military Signs of some Gods in ancient Mesopotamia Such as : wedge , spear, scepter, Arrow, axe , dagger, hammer, double scepter , sword , fork , paw , bow of arrow…etc.
This signs all refers to the sacred for people who wears or hold it in the believing of ancient Mesopotamia.
third part
symbols in various shapes of some Gods in ancient Mesopotamia
Chapter I: symbols of gods in animal body and reptiles shapes and the bird body shapes
Chapter II: symbols of gods mythical shapes
Chapter III : symbols of the gods in plant, the cosmic, geometrical drawings and others shapes.
Such as : Lion, ox, horse , the of the horse , snake, dragon , ram , horns , dog , scorpion, fish, frog, turtle, spade , fish-man , scorpion- man, boat-man , dog- man , snake- man, lion-man, mušḫušu , gryphon , bull- man, boat-snake , snake-fish, birds , geese, falcon, dove, owl , anzu bird , babsukal bird , Nin mar-ki bird , reed , rosette , sacred tree…etc.
Because of a huge number of Mesopotamian gods and it’s impossible to refer all walls of temples , palaces , statue , sarcophagus , and boundary stones , cylinder seals , which carved with symbols of gods but we shows the important examples only.
Finally , we find in the end the appendixes of the research includes photos , schedules , maps , list of references then The Results of the Study Such as :
1- The British Expedition discovered about thousands of ivory works in the three stockroom in western south side from shalmanesser palace and other rooms number sw11/12/37.
2- All this pieces gathered by the Assyrian kings such as ashurbanibal II and sergon II as a tribute and they keep it in Nimrud city , all this ivory works captured in 9 and 7 century B.c
3- The discovery of one the important treasures in Mesopotamia in south of Babylon in the Dilbat city preserved now in the arts of Metropolitan Museum .
4- Uncovering about various monuments in Assur, Khursbade, Nineveh, Nuzi, Mari, carcamish , Nippur, Ur, Uruk, Kaish,etc…
5- Prevalence the Plants especially the form of the sacred tree on the walls of the palaces such as palaces of sennehrib in Nineveh in the rooms 11-12-13-14.
6- Uncovering in the site of tell-hamad 2003 by Marina potchy and manager of the Museum Deir el zur Yasser shohan and Ali maain about new houses containing a lot of pottery and cylinder seals part of them preserved in the British Museum and the other in Dar Karsteiz at New York .
7- Uncovering about plates which known ” Goddess lists ” in abu el Șalabiḫ site .
