Abstract The importance of nickel as a basic material for corrosion resistant alloys and its catalytic properties with respect to many organic reactions is well recognized. Nickel is also well-known as a corrosion resistant metal in many aggressive media, although it corrodes at a significant rate in the presence of mineral acids or neutral medium like KC1. The study aims to investigate the effect of 1,4,8,11, tetra-azo cyclotetra decane (cyclam), N,N’-bis (2-aminoethyl)1,3-propandiamine (2,3,2-tet.) and 2-(triphenosphoranylidene) succinic anhydride (2-TPSA) as corrosion inhibitors for nickel in acidic and neutral media, also to investigate the kinetics and mechanism of pitting corrosion of nickel and its inhibition. The Electrochemical technique (D.C. polarization) was used to record the anodic polarization curves of nickel at a scanning rate of 1 mV/sec. The results comprises the following : 1. The corrosion of nickel in 0.5 M HaSO,, and the presence of 2,3,2-tet., cyclam and 2-TPSA as corrosion inhibitors. |
