المستخلص

Hydrographic surveys are made to acquire and present data on oceans, lakes, bays or harbors. In addition to harbor construction and offshore drilling, he e surveys are carried out for water depths and location of rocks and wrecks for navigation channel openings and salvage operations, dredged for harbor Deeping, maintenance, mineral recovery, and navigation channel access, site locations for submarine cables and underwater pipelines and intakes. Hydrographic surveys measure and define the configuration of the bottoms and adjacent land areas of water bodies, especially as they pertain to navigation This information is critically important to the production of nautical charts and is also useful to the fishing industry and coastal zone managers. They are the primary responsibility of the Coast Survey’s Hydrographic Surveys Division. Hydrographic surveying is important in a variety of marine activities such as mineral resource management including oil and gas, fishery management, submarine cable routes, marine archeology, search and recovery efforts, and safe navigation. Hydrographic survey use a variety of tools and equipment, ranging from sonar systems to computers and peripherals, GPS, sampling equipment, and deck equipment. The location of any points can be determined manually or by electro-magnetically such as GPS. The basic objective of the thesis is comparison between different instruments of echo sounder, which measure the depth and the effect of error in the echo sounder on the computation of the volume of excavation under water.
