Abstract

The present experiments were carried out in clay pots under glass house conditons in Department of Agriculture Botany , Faculty of Agriculture ,Kafr EL-Sheikh, Tanta University during the two late summer seasons of 1992 and 1993. The main objective of this study was to recognize morphologxal , physiological and anatomical characteristics of sweet pepper . The respones of sweet pepper Capsicum annuurn . L . California wonder variety to foliar applications of different concentrations of growth regulators : Kinetin , cycocel ( CCC ), ethrel and morphoctin ( CME ). The used levels were : 25 , 50 , and 100 mg/L for lunetin, 500,1000 and 2000 mg/L for CCC, 100 , 200 , and 400 mg/L for ethrel and 2.5,5, and 100 mg/L for CMA besied the >control (water spray ) . The experiments included 13 treatments which were 3 concentrations froin each one of the 4 growth regulators, the pots were arranged in a complete randomized blok design every treatment had three replicates and each replicate was represented by 5 pots . Means of experiments were compared by L.S.D method . Vegetative growth analysis was done at 15 , 45 and 90 days after application an the characters i.e , plant height, number of branches , leaves 1 plant , leaf area and fiesh and dry weight after 90 days fiom applecation . Photosynthetic pigments concentration in leaf were done at 15 and 45 days after application , also germination percentage of resulting seed was recorded one tiine after application . Yield and its coinpo~~enatnsd fi-uit quality and its chemical cornposition were recorded one tiine after application . - The effect of growth regulators on structure of root , stem and leaf was recorded at 15 days after application . The optained results could be summarized as follows : I - Vegetative growth : The number of branches , leaves / plant , leaf area ( fifth leaf) and plant fiesh and dry weight as well as dry weight percentage were significantly increased by using the four growth regulators . Morphactin (CME) gave significantly shortened plants , followied by cycocel ( CCC ) and ethrel . While kinetin treatment significantly increased plant height . 11 - Physiological studies : Photosynthetic pigrnents chl. a, chl. b, cld. a+b and carotenoids concentrations were increased by using the four growth regulators at all concentrations. The best effect was obtained by foliar application of morphactin ( CME ) . Germination percentage of the resulting seeds from treated plants by using the four growth regulators was decreased, except cycocel ( CCC ) at 2000 mg/L and all concentrations of ethrel which increased germination percentage 111 - Yield and its components : Number of flowers and fruits / plant and fruit-set percentage were increased by using kinetin , cycocel ( CCC ), etluel and morphactio (CME ). Also Early and total yield / plant were significantly increased by increasing mmber and weight of hits . KV - Fruit quality and its chemical composition : -. All concentrations of lunetin and ethrel increased hit length , on the other hand morphactin ( CME ) decreased hit length . Cycocel ( CCC ) did not changed hit length . Fresh and dry weight of the hit were significantly increased by increasing hit diameter and flesh tlvckness when plants were treated by all concentrations of the four growth regulators . During storage period of hits the least weight loss of hits was obtained by application of cycocel ( CCC ) followed by morphactin ( CME ) , ethrel then kinetin.
