Abstract Surgical treatment based on gastric restriction procedures (gastroplasty ) is increasingly recognized procedures as a treatment of choice for morbid obese persons . Restrictive operations are devoid of metabolic long- term complications. Early studies revealed that surgical treatment for morbid obesity is safe and effective provided that the patients are crucially selected and subjected to a long – term postoperative follow up . The general aim of the present study was to implement a nutrition care plan for improvement of the nutritional status of obese subjects after vertical band gastroplasty . This was achieved through evaluation of the nutritional status postoperatively , assessment of the rate of weight loss , exploring the level of some blood vitamins and minerals after the operation and studying the impact of the plan on the nutritional status. This study was conducted in the surgical departments of the main Alexandria university hospital and all private hospitals in Alexandria in which the operation is performed , during the period from January 2003 to January 2004. the study included 50patients during a period of Six months . Intervention care plan was administrated to 50% of them , the remaining (25) was the control group |
