Abstract The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the role of CT and MRI in the preoperative assessment of tumors of the head and neck. This was done by comparing the diagnostic abilities of both techniques, their impact on the TNM classification and on the patient management. This study included 32 patients strongly suspected of having head and neck tumors. Each patient was subjected to complete clinical evaluation, histopathological examination of the preoperative biopsy specimen and of the surgical specimen when feasible, CT and MRI examination and operative resection, when advised. The data collected from the above procedures, were then assembled and properly evaluated to find which of the two techniques ( CT and MRI ) added the most to the management. |
