Abstract This study was conducted at the Agricultural Experimental Station and Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture. Mansoura University. The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effectiveness of two preservation methods for fruit vegetable market wastes (FVMW) either as hay or silage forms on the intake, nutrient digestibilities and nitrogen balance by sheep. In situ dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM) and crude protein (CP) degradabilities was also studied, with sheep. Seven metabolism trails were conducted to evaluate the tested diets. The experimental rations were as follows: 1- Berssem hay (BH) 100% (Control diet). 2- BH 75% + FVMW 25%. 3- BH 50% + FVMW 50%. 4- BH 25% + FVMW 75%. 5- Sun dried FVMW as a hay 100%. 6- Silage consisted of 1 FVMW: 1 MS, w/w. 7- Silage consisted of 2 FVMW:1 MS,. w/w. Berseem hay (BH) was replaced by FVMWH at the rate of 25, 50 or 75% of its dry matter, besides BH and FVMWH were fed as sole feeds, therefore, five tested diets were evaluated. |
