Abstract

The SLE is a prototype multi-systemic autoimmune illness. Skin, joints, lungs,
kidneys, heart, blood vessels, and the central nervous system are just a few of the organ
systems that are impacted by the development of antibodies against self-antigens dsDNA
in SLE. Through the previous years, the overall incidence and prevalence of SLE have
increased from 1.4 to 21.9% and from 7.4 to 159.4 cases per 100,000 people, respectively.
miRNAs are a class of endogenous non-coding RNAs that play important roles in
regulating gene expression. The miRNA expression profiles of SLE patients prove that
miRNAs are relevant to the pathogenesis of SLE. Functions of abnormally expressed
miRNAs have elucidated the mechanisms involved in the development of SLE. One of
numerous miRNAs that contribute to different aspects of the abnormal immune responses
in SLE is miR-146a.
