Abstract

Achilles tendon injury is very common in middle aged athletic men. Surgical repair is the usual line of management; however, other lines were adopted in treatment protocols of tendon injuries. One of the promising recently used biological treatments is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection. It is considered as a rich source of growth factors required for tissue regeneration. These growth factors booster healing and regeneration of various tissue types through stimulation of cellular signaling that provokes angiogenesis, cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and matrix formation the healing process.
According to recent studies pentoxifylline (PTX) improves tissue perfusion through vasodilatation. It also interferes with inflammation by blocking actions of inflammatory mediators thus diminishing their tissue damaging effect.
