Abstract

The dispersal of non-indigenous species (NIS) in the Mediterranean Sea is a dynamic process occurring consistently more frequently and is probably to continue into the future. Among the NIS of the crustacean group, penaeid prawns are considered the most dispersal invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea. Globally, penaeids are the most important commercial resources in fisheries and aquaculture. The present study aims to identify the species composition of NIS of penaeids in the landing center of Boughaz El-Maadiyah on the Egyptian Mediterranean coast, in addition to their abundance and some of their morphometric characteristics. Moreover, detailed growth and reproductive studies were done on one of the most important commercial shrimp species Penaeus latisulcatus (Kishinouye, 1896).
