Abstract

Substance abuse is currently seen as one of the most serious threats in many countries, having a detrimental impact on the government and the community as it primarily affects those who are in the productive age.
The aim of the current study was to develop an outcome prediction model for admitted cases to Alexandria Poison Center with acute intoxication by substances of abuse and assessment of severity of the cases using NEWS II score in adult patients and PEWS score for children (less than 18 years). The study was conducted on patients for six months from the beginning of January to the end of June2022.
The study was conducted on 151 patients admitted to Alexandria Poison Center of Alexandria Main University Hospital. Patients or their relatives were interviewed, then the patients were exposed to thorough history taking, clinical assessment and management, after obtaining informed consent from all patients or their guardians. Data were collected in a specially designed sheet (Appendix I).
