Abstract

The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of different mouth washes and tooth brushing techniques on color stability of ceramic veneers. A portable clinical spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade, spectrophotometer, VITA Zahnfabrik, Bad Sackingen, Germany) was used to record the tooth shade. University Patients were selected to have 30 Zirconia-containing lithium silicate ceramic veneers (ZLS) (Celtra), then were randomly divided into 3 groups 10 for each group. Ceramic veneers were milled from celtra CAD CAM blocks. Ceramic laminates were cemented by a light-cured luting agent to prevent the color shifts that can occur due to chemical changes in the curing process then the instructions given to participants. The color of the ceramic veneers was measured with Easy Shade after using different mouth washes and tooth brushing techniques at 6 & 12 months postoperatively. Following randomization, all participants were given the identical toothpaste. The participants were given instructions for manual, powered brushing, and mouth rinse. Participants randomly divided into three groups (control group, group asked to rinse with chlorhexidine based mouthwash and group asked to rinse with Alcohol based mouthwash28,29. In this study, the three groups were compared for each duration individually. P value <0.05(*) was considered significant difference & Pvalue <0.001(**) was considered highly significant difference. group 2 showed highly significant change when compared with group 3 &group 1. There was no significant difference between subgroups (A&B) in the same group for each duration. Manual brushes& powered brushes in the same group had the same effect on ceramic veneers. After 6 months, the color stability record of tested ceramic laminate veneers after using (CHX-based mouthwash) changed marginally. Color stability record changed again after 12 months of using (CHX-based mouthwash), with a significant variation between durations in the same group. The color stability record of tested ceramic laminate veneers when using (Alcohol-based mouthwash) remained unchanged after 6 months, but after 12 months of use, the color stability record altered significantly, indicating a significant difference between durations in the same group. In the study, manual brushes and powered brushes in the same group had the same effect on ceramic veneers. Therefore, the null hypothesis was accepted.
