Abstract

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a highly infectious and contagious virus belonging to the coronavirus family. Since its announcement by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global pandemic on 11 March 2020, it has caused a major health hazard globally, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The World Health Organization (WHO) conceptualized QoL as “an individual’s perception of their position in the life in the context of the culture in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns”.
Quality of life (QoL) has emerged as an important measure in psychiatric research because of its frequent use as an assessment and treatment outcome indicator. The WHO’s quality of life-BREF (WHOQoL-BREF) is a QoL measuring tool that can be used to compare health-related QoL across a huge variety of conditions or illnesses; it is also used as a tool to indicate the outcome of various QoL interventions. Several factors, such as gender, education, environment, years of study, depression, and chronic illness have been identified as predictors of QoL in university students.
The mental health of medical students is an issue worthy of attention, especially during COVID-19 as many any studies have shown that depression and anxiety are the main problems faced by medical students before and after the covid-19 pandemic. This study performed aiming to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on quality of life and its associated factors among medical students.
