Abstract
Bacterial pneumonia is a persistent problem that hampers the well-being of small ruminants, causing long-term effects and an overall decline in their quality of life. Therefore, it was important to: I) isolate and identify the most common pathogens causing pneumonia in sheep and goats; II) identify molecularly K. pneumoniae and Pasteurella species isolated from the respiratory tracts of diseased sheep and goats; III) evaluate the histopathological features of post-mortem lesions; IV) assess the infection rate and the epidemiological determinants of bacterial pneumonia in various districts in Sharkia Governorate; V) test the antimicrobial susceptibility of K. pneumoniae and Pasteurella species isolated from pneumonic sheep and goats; VI) evaluate the ability of K. pneumoniae to generate biofilm and the molecular detection of several biofilm genes; VII) investigate cinnamon oil’s antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities against MDR K. pneumoniae isolated from pneumonic sheep and goats.
