Abstract

Systemic arterial hypertension, a multifactorial disease, is an important preventable risk factor for morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disease worldwide. Its prevalence in Egyptian people is 29.5%.
Metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), a long non-coding RNA, plays a role in endothelial cell functions and angiogenesis and facilitates the inflammatory cascade. Endothelial cell dysfunction and inflammation of the vessel wall are probably the key events in vascular remodelling. MALAT1 is also associated with increased left ventricular weight in hypertensive rats.
This study investigated the association between MALAT1 rs3200401 polymorphism and hypertension in Egyptian patients for better
