Abstract

Molluscs is the second-largest animal phylum on Earth, which comprises between 100 and 200 thousand species and accounts for 7% of all living organisms. They employ various secondary metabolites as communication methods and as a defense mechanism against intruders and predators, with more than 1145 natural products identified and isolated from molluscs in the last three decades. Secondary metabolites of Mollusca have drawn the attention of numerous researchers because of the efficacy in treating cancer and Hodgkin’s illness. Moreover, it has been clinically studied and authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a treatment for extremely painful conditions.Gastropods like Helix sp. have long been valued for their culinary benefits referred to the medicinal efficacies of snail mucus in treating burns, abscesses, and other skin treatments. Recent studies have revealed that a broncho-relaxant action of Helix pomatia mucus is caused through a considerable rise in prostaglandin E2. Nowadays, snail mucus is an important product with skin regeneration abilities.
