Abstract

Sono Elastography is a new diagnostic tool of added value in differentiation between benign and malignant thyroid nodules with or without conventional ultrasound
Shear Wave Elastography stimulates tissues with focused ultrasonic pulses, tracks shear waves with an ultra-fast US technique, and presents real-time output on elastograms in terms of shear wave velocity or estimated tissue stiffness.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of Share Wave Elastography in assessment of thyroid nodules based on results of FNAB. And to evaluate / assure the reporting quality on adherence to ACR-TIRADS reporting templates and the effect on reducing the un-necessary required FNAB.
In this study, 100 cases were included from which 68 cases were benign and 32 cases were malignant. The cases were subjected to grey scale U/S compared with the previous ultrasound reports on the patient’s hand and share wave elastography compared with the results of U/S guided FNAB.
We concluded that the thyroid nodule ultrasonography based on ACR-TIRADS improve the quality of reporting, prevent missing any data during reporting and reduced the un-necessary required FNAB.
Distribution of ACR-TIRADS charts in the reporting rooms is recommended with more dedicated medical staff learning on basis of ACR-TIRADS guidelines.
SWE has a promising future in differentiation between benign and malignant thyroid nodules, further studies are necessary to publicate the results.
