Abstract

Background: Peer education method is very important in nursing education; this method enable to transfer of actual information and use healthy behavior among members with similar concern and characteristics about first aid. study aim: Evaluate effect of peer education method about selected first aid measures on knowledge and practice among Port Said faculty of nursing students. Research Design: Quasi experimental research design was utilized to conduct this study. Settings: This study conducted in faculty of nursing Port Said university Study sample: A purposive sample of 77 nursing students. Tools: two tools were used: Tool I: A structured questionnaire sheet divided in to three parts Part I: personal demographic characteristics of the studied students, Part II: student’s characteristics regarding first aid training and Part III: Nursing student’s knowledge regarding first aid Tool II: observational checklist about selected first aid. Results: Regarding first-aid total practice it was showed that only (39.0) of studied students had adequate practice pre program of peer education while post program (94.8%) of studied students had adequate. Regarding first-aid total knowledge the results indicated that (2.6%) of studied students had good level of knowledge pre program of peer education and post intervention program the precentage raised to (36.4%). Conclusion: The educational program was successful in attaining its aim of positively changing in nursing student’s knowledge and practice of selected first aid measures. Recommendations: Ongoing utilizing peer education method in teaching first aid to improve knowledge and practice of students. Future studies should be conducted to study long term impact of peer education on student knowledge and practice.
