Abstract

Egypt show low prevalence in Hepatitis B virus (HBV) presence cleared in young generations due to the attributing of HBV universal vaccination. HBV prevalence in Egyptian adults shows a percent of (8%) while the percent in children is (1.6%). Reactivation of the virus occurs in individuals positive for anti-HBc with and without anti-HBs and HBsAg undetectable in serum. HBV genotypes were determined in some Egyptian governments (Dakahlia, Gharbia, and El Sharkia), using the conventional polymerase chain reaction, Nucleotide sequencing has been done on the genotypes C/D. Of the 49 samples, 6 had the D genotype, that is the most common in Egypt, and 3 had the C/D genotype, that is the least common in the group of samples. It has been shown that the leaf extract of three Ficus species (F. mysorensis, F. deltoidei, and F. sycomorus) can help inhibition the progression of HBV infection. Our findings suggested that the traditional polymerase chain reaction can be used to identify HBV genotypes accurately. In addition, this study proposes that the tested Ficus plants are an excellent supplement to the standard treatment for HBV infections.
