Abstract

This research mainly studies idiomatic expressions in modern Chinese and Arabic. The treatise consists of five main parts: an introduction, three chapters, an appendix of Chinese expressions, an appendix of Arabic expressions, and a list of references.
In the introduction, explain the topic of the research, the research objectives and tasks, the research material and the methodology on which the research was based, in addition to the theoretical and applied value of the research.
Part one: Definition of idiomatic expressions and their structural characteristics in the modern Chinese and Arabic languages
It includes two chapters:
The first chapter: Definition of idiomatic expressions and their sources in modern Chinese and Arabic. where the sources of most of the idiomatic expressions in Chinese and Arabic come from the vernacular language of people’s daily practices of food, clothing, housing and other practices familiar to people.
This chapter also studies the linguistic phenomena to which idiomatic expression is subject in both languages. Through the research, it was found that expressions in Chinese and Arabic are subject to different linguistic phenomena such as synonymy, verbal association, and linguistic accompaniment.
The second chapter is concerned with analyzing the structural structure of idiomatic expressions in modern Chinese and Arabic. This chapter mainly compares and analyzes the structural characteristics of Chinese and Arabic expressions in terms of structural patterns and grammatical structure.
As for the second chapter, it is concerned with semantic analysis of idiomatic expressions, where expressions in the Chinese and Arabic languages are characterized by semantic strength, and the meaning of the real idiomatic expression is the semantic meaning and not the sum of the words that make it up. It is understood from the figurative color that constitutes the idiomatic expression. in the expressions of both languages.
The third chapter examines idiomatic expressions in modern Chinese and Arabic from the perspective of cultural linguistics. This chapter discusses the symbolism of material assets in Chinese and Arabi idiomatic expressions. The first chapter focuses on the members of the human body included in the idiomatic expression, while the second chapter relies on expressions related to the environment and includes animals. Natural phenomena and the religious spiritual aspect.
