Abstract

Environmental pollution is gradually increasing, causing a negative impact on ecosystems, biodiversity and living organisms including humans by polluting soil and water worldwide [1,2]. Water is a precious and indispensable resource for life on Earth. Water pollution affects all life on Earth [3]. Water pollution with harmful substances leads to a decrease in water quality [4]. Agrochemicals, especially pesticides, are produced and used in the agricultural and industrial sectors, leading to pollution of both surface water and ground. Recently, the production and use of pesticides is increasing due to the standard of living and to feed the world’s growing population [5]. About 4.1 million tons of pesticides were used in the world in 2016 [6,7]. Pesticides are chemicals used to kill or prevent pests, which are toxic to humans, birds, fish and animals [8]. Exposure to pesticides causes human serious diseases such as asthma, allergies, blood diseases, immune system damage, liver damage, cancer, leukaemia, brain cancer, ovarian cancer, endocrine disorder, etc [9,10]. Carbofuran, also called as 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranol methyl carbamate, is a carbamate anticholinesterase, which is commonly used as a nematicide, acaricide, and insecticide in agriculture worldwide. Hence, its widespread use leads to adverse effects on wildlife, humans, fish and animals [11,12]. Pesticides must be removed from the environment and water to eliminate their negative effects on human health, living organisms and food quality. There are techniques such as biological, chemical, and physical methods for treating water from pesticides
