Abstract

Over the last few decades, creating a livable urban community has been challenging. Although there is no universally agreed definition of livability, it is defined as a parameter that improves the quality of a person’s daily experience in the community. This paper assesses livability in Egyptian society, focusing on the new urban communities, specifically Sheikh Zayed and New Cairo Cities in Egypt’s Greater Cairo Region. The impact of urban livability on people’s satisfaction was assessed through different examinations. This research constructed a conceptual framework model of the most relevant aspects and indicators to be applied in Egyptian urban communities. This study’s data were analyzed through descriptive, statistical analysis and software.
Case studies surveys quantitative and quantitative results revealed people’s perspectives on a livable community. Based on specific social and cultural aspects, the recommendations developed blueprints for improving the Egyptian community’s livability. The findings show that urban livability is an essential parameter of a sustainable and healthy community and helps improve the residents’/users’ quality of living. Moreover, the results identify the most influential aspects and parameters that could match the Egyptian context.
The researcher examines livability on two levels. The first is the users’ perception of the concept of livability and how satisfied they are, and the second is the validation of the concluded findings and aspects by the experts and academics. The data were compared and analyzed statistically to construct a valid conclusion.
The research aim is to highlight the importance of applying the urban livability approach in the Egyptian context. In addition to discussing the direct relation between society satisfaction, quality of living, and livability. This topic needs further research to investigate each aspect and parameter and measure it through different scales.
