Abstract

A food additive is any substance that becomes part of a food product either directly or indirectly during some phases of processing, storage, or packaging. Food additives serve three major purposes in our foods: To provide nutrition, to maintain product quality and freshness , and to make foods appealing (flavoring agents, coloring agents, and sweeteners). One such food additive is monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is preserved as spices and applied to a wide range of foods such as noodles, prepared soups, chicken broth cubes, and powder and in addition to the prepared sauces and chips.
