Abstract

In this study, 145 different samples were randomly collected from internal organs of pigeons and squabs, sold at different regions of Cairo and Giza governorates. Samples were cultured for the isolation of streptococci. Morphological, biochemical and molecular identification of bacterial isolates revealed the isolation of Streptococcus gallolyticus with total incidence of 11.72%. Regional incidence differed among the sampling places with the rates of (2% in El Marg, 9% in Ein shams, 8% in Nasr city, 17% in El Moneeb, 11% in El Hawemdia and 12% in El Badrashin. Isolates were tested for their antimicrobial sensitivity against the common antibacterial therapeutics applied in the veterinary field. Conventional and multiplex PCR assays were carried out on isolates’ DNA for identification and detection of virulence and antibiotic resistance genes.
