Abstract

Nowadays, the aviation industry is witnessing a rapid and disruptive era that could be described as the era of hyper-competition in which the whole industry has become at the forefront of other industries having no choice except going forward the digital transformation. In this regard, the purpose of this study is exploring the current situation of the Egyptian airports and EgyptAir toward the digital transformation journey related to flight operations, business models, the digital transformation strategy core aspects. For that sake, the study adapted the descriptive analytical methodology by employing the mixed methods which are the online questionnaire which was designed and distributed over a random sample of 724 EgyptAir airlines passengers; and the open interviews that were conducted with ICT sector top managements of the Egyptian airports holding company (EAHC).
Consequently, the study provided a collection of findings that can help in the identification of new and emerging technologies with the potential to improve passenger experiences and optimize flight operations. The most important study finding was that technology is the EAHC and EgyptAir’s ideal opportunity to which it pays attention as a guiding way for achieving travel convenience, safety, and security that, EgyptAir and the Egyptian airports are activating digital technology safety and passenger service systems. According to study recommendations, EgyptAir should raise passenger flight digital practices awareness in terms of its values and how to apply them for better seamless flight. Furthermore, the EAHC should step up its support for Egyptian airport digital managements to fulfill digital transformation journey in addition to bolstering major units which interact with passengers directly to raise digital passenger experience awareness specially marketing and sales managements.
