Abstract Aim of the work: To analyze the impact of serum biomarkers of EMT on fibrogenic process and progression to tumorogenesis caused by HCV. Results: The serum TGF-Ý1, BMP-7, CTGF and YKL-40 were significantly increased in CHC, LC and HCC cases compared with normal controls (p <0.001). Serum TGF-Ý1/ BMP-7 ratio shows increase from F0 to F4 with no significant difference between LC and HCC. CTGF was significantly high in LC and YKL-40 was significantly high in HCC. Conclusions: Increase of TGF-Ý1/BMP-7 ratio reflects the rate of EMT. In HCV hepatic patients: the simultaneous determination of TGF-Ý1/BMP-7 ratio and of CTGF in serum might provide information on fibrogenic activity, while this ratio in association with YKL-40 can be used for monitoring of the malignant transformation. |
