Abstract

This study was carried out on 145 dogs of different ages, body weights, breed and of both sexes and included evaluation of the intraocular pressure in relation to the day hours, age, sex and breed (75 dogs), diagnosis and surgical treatment of glaucoma in outpatient dogs attending the surgery clinic, faculty of veterinary medicine, Cairo University (65 dogs) and Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of Ahmed glaucoma valve for treatment of uncontrollable glaucoma (5 dogs). Concerning the relation between the IOP and day hours, the intraocular pressure changed significantly throughout the day in all animals. No statistical difference was found between data for the right and left eyes of male and females. Secondary glaucoma was diagnosed in 60 cases and lens induced glaucoma was the most common type of the glaucoma seen in the presented cases. Ocular endoscopy was an easy, noninvasive diagnostic procedure used to evaluate ocular problems and used as a complement to traditional ocular examination. It provided a wide range of view for the iridocorneal angle and allowed visualization of the interior structures in cases suffering from corneal edema and cataract. A successful outcome was achieved after Ahmed valve implantation with 3 months of follow up. No post operative complications were detected in the operated eyes except a persistent corneal edema occupied the upper half of the cornea for 3 weeks in one case
