Egyptian television series dealt with women’s issues significantly, especially divorced women, and raised some issues that women face after divorce in different classes and groups and from all aspects. They may deal with her image in different ways , whether positive or negative , similar or contrary to reality. The time of the culture of the image that the teenage girl relies on in order to build mental images of others, including the image of the divorced woman, especially since a large percentage of adolescent girls believe that these materials reflect a reality similar to their reality, and from here the problem of this study crystallizes in an attempt to monitor and analyze the issues of divorced women presented in serials Egyptian television and determining its relationship to the role it plays in forming the mental image of adolescent girls, through knowing and analyzing the characteristics and features of the image of divorced women presented in Egyptian TV series and the most important issues they face and how to address them, and researching and identifying the characteristics of the image formed about the issues of divorced women among teenage girls. The study is from Egyptian viewers.•The importance of the study:−First Theoretical importance:1.The importance of the study lies in the fact that it deals with the issue of divorce, which is a serious aspect of women’s issues and how to highlight it through TV series. There is no doubt that women are the most important element in Egyptian society that is affected by the status and image of women presented from the viewpoint of the dramatist and his personal convictions.2.Egyptian series are popular and currently they have a huge audience, and they can address contemporary issues and provide solutions to many of them. This stems from their ability to convey ideas and create an indirect impact on the audience, which is one of the most dangerous methods of influence.−Second: Practical Importance:1.The study derives its practical importance from highlighting the mental image of the divorced woman acquired among Egyptian adolescent girls through their exposure to Egyptian TV series.2.This study may serve as a resonance for those in charge of the Egyptian TV series industry when dealing with issues of divorced women to achieve more realism and reach the conscience of the teenage girl by examining her opinions and motives for watching such television materials, and to move away from isolation from the daily issues of Egyptian women, especially the case of Divorce and its consequences.•The most important objectives of the study:
This study aims to achieve a main objective, which is ”to identify the issues of divorced women in Egyptian TV series and their relationship to their mental image among adolescent girls.”−The most important objectives of the analytical study:”Identifying the media image of divorced women’s issues presented in Egyptian TV series” through:1.Monitoring the positive and negative features of divorced women in Egyptian TV series.2.Identifying the most important issues and problems that a divorced woman faces in her daily life.3.Identifying the most important issues of divorced women, social, legal, economic, psychological, health and religious, which are in the Egyptian TV series, which is the study sample. −The most important objectives of the field study:”Identifying the mental image reflected of the divorced woman among teenage girls through Egyptian TV series” through:1.Monitoring the rate of exposure of adolescent girls to Egyptian TV series that deal with divorced women’s issues.2.Identifying the motives of watching (utilitarian and ritualistic) and the degree of awareness among adolescent girls of the realism of divorced women’s issues that appeared in Egyptian TV series.3.Knowledge of the most important issues of divorced women (social, economic, health, psychological and legal) that teenage girls are exposed to in Egyptian TV series.•Study type and methodology:This study is one of the descriptive studies that depend on the survey method in both its analytical and field aspects.•The study sample:−Analytical study sample: A sample of Egyptian TV series that dealt with issues of divorced women from 2015 to 2021, consisting of twenty-two Egyptian series.−Field study sample:It consists of a random (accidental) sample of adolescent girls (11: less than 21) years old who watch Egyptian TV series that deal with divorced women’s issues, and a sample of 400 individuals.•Data collection tools:−Analytical study tool The content analysis sheet was prepared as a tool for data collection, and the paper included two categories of analysis (form and content) that contribute to the scientific methodological answer to the questions of the analytical study. −Field study tool The questionnaire was prepared as a data collection tool to measure the degree of teenage girls’ awareness of the reality of divorced women in Egyptian TV series, and to monitor the mental image formed by teenage girls about divorced women.•The most important results of the study:−Results of the analytical study:1.It was found that social issues are among the issues most directed by divorced women in Egyptian TV series, the study sample, as they came in the first place, followed by health and psychological issues in the second, and economic issues came in the third place, then legal issues came in fourth place, while religious issues were not dealt with at all.2.The nature of the role of the divorced woman, which combines the negative and the positive as presented by Egyptian TV series, came in the first place, followed by the nature of the negative role, then the nature of the positive role in the third place, while the category of the nature of the role that is not clear at all was not included in the sample of the analytical study.3.The most social issues facing divorced women, as presented by Egyptian TV series of the study sample, were the issue of society’s view, followed by the issue of emotional needs in the second place, and the issue of conflict with family or society. It ranked third.4.The most economic issues facing divorced women, as presented by TV series, came in the first place with the phrase (not dealing with economic issues), followed by an issue borne by children’s expenses after divorce in the second place, then Unemployment issues, housing issues, non-fulfillment of the necessities of living, and financial costs resulting from divorce, came in the same third place. 5.The most health and psychological issues facing divorced women came in the first place, the issue of divorced women who suffer from psychiatric illnesses (depression and stress), then in the second place was the phrase (there is no), and the two issues (suffering from occasional organic diseases) and (suffering from chronic diseases) came in the same percentage in the third place.6.Finally, the category of legal issues came in the first place (not dealing with legal issues) in the Egyptian series, the sample of the analytical study, and then in the second place (the issue of alimony), then came ( The issue of bureaucracy) is in the third rank.
−Results of the field study:7.The density of teenage girls in the study sample watching Egyptian TV series that deal with issues of divorced women came at an average in the first place, followed by a high in the second place, and in the third and last place a category came with a low.8.The results showed that the most important ritual motives that make adolescent girls watch Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues came the phrase (entertaining and enjoyable) in the first place, followed by the phrase (just a habit for leisure time) in the second place, then the phrase (getting rid of boredom and loneliness) in third place.9.The most important utilitarian motives that make adolescent girls watch Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues are the phrase (they provide useful experiences and expertise in life and its various aspects). In the first place, the phrase (they make me see what I cannot watch in real life.) In the second place, then the phrase (helps me to visualize women’s issues and the extent of their suffering from the problems they face.). 10.The most topics that deal with divorced women’s issues, which the teenage girls in the study sample prefer to watch, came in the first order (social issues), followed by (health and psychological) issues in the second order. Then it came in the third place (legal issues).11.The teenage girls, the study sample, believe that the nature of the image of the divorced woman as it appeared in the series was a moderate image that combines negativity and positivity. The category (combines them both) is at the top of the table, followed by the category (negative image) in the second place, and in the third place came the (positive image) category with, then came the fourth and last category (unclear).−The results of the hypothesis validity test:1.The first hypothesis: The hypothesis stating that ”there is a statistically significant correlation between the intensity of teenage girls watching Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues and their level of awareness of the realism of the content presented” has been proven correct.2.The second hypothesis: The hypothesis, which states that ”there is a statistically significant correlation between active viewing (attention level) and teenage motives for watching Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues, has been proven correct.”3.The third hypothesis: The hypothesis stating that ”there are statistically significant differences in the mental image (positive - negative) of adolescent girls who watch Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues according to the intensity of viewing” has been proven incorrect.4.The fourth hypothesis: The hypothesis was partially proven to be true, stating that ”there are statistically significant differences in the motives of watching (ritual - utilitarian) among adolescent girls who watch Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues, according to the intensity of viewing”.5.The fifth hypothesis: The hypothesis that says that ”there are statistically significant differences in the motives of watching (ritual - utilitarian) among adolescent girls who watch Egyptian series that deal with divorced women’s issues according to the level of realism perception” has been proven correct.
