Abstract

This thesis discusses Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems that is an efficient electric energy source that could reduce the dependence on fuel. Further, the falling PV prices during the last years have triggered a global reliance on PV systems.
The PV system is considered the optimum solution for irrigation Systems in an Arid Area for Olive Fields in the Western West El-Minia. The work done demonstrated techno-economic feasibility to determine the array size requirements to a power pumping system for irrigating 160 feddan of the olive crop from a deep well (120 m depth) to supply the water needed for crop water requirement. By discussing various approaches that minimizes the cost, it is found that the PV battery-free model has demonstrated a significant cost reduction reaching 80%, referring to a conventional DGS alternative. The accomplished work done in this thesis enables one to determine the array size requirements to a power pumping system for irrigating 180 feddan from a deep well (50 m depth) to supply the water needed for crop water requirements. The conventional system of irrigation based on a Diesel generator driving submerged pump was compared by PV system from 50 m well depth to irrigate 180 feddan in new reclaimed land in Farafra for 108kWp array size.
The steady state analysis of DC to DC boost converter doesn’t explain the difference between the ratio of Vo/Vi for Duty cycle greater than 50% while the transient analysis given in this work explains the difference between Vo/Vi ratio vs Duty cycle for Duty cycle greater than 50%. The effect of switching frequency on Vo/Vi ratio is studied in detail in this work. The analysis given in this work shows that the ratio Vo/Vi decreases for frequencies above 50 kHz.
