Abstract

Background :Muscle cramps are a frequent complaint in the general population and represent one of the most common clinical problems among pregnants. Purpose:The major objective of the current research is to investigate the effect ofKinesio-tape with 30% tension for 48 hours altogether with stretching exercise on calf muscular cramping during pregnancy. Subjects:Fifty-two pregnant women with calf muscle cramps participated in this randomized controlledtrial. The participants’ age ranged from 25 to 35 years old, and their BMI was from 25 to 29.9 kilograms per square meter. They were classified into two groups of equal size. The Studygroup had obtained a “Y strip” that has been applied to the affected leg at 30% tension for 48 hours in addition to 15 seconds of passive calf muscle stretches with 30 seconds of rest. This exercise was repeated 6 times per session, and they were all instructed to participate in self-slow sustained calf muscle stretch when cramping occurred. Only the identical instructions regarding dealing with muscle cramps together with self-slowing were given to the control group.
Results:Comparing both groups post-treatment revealed that there were significant reduction in the score of cramp visual analogue scale (p <0.001) and significant increase both weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion ROM and Straight leg raising ROM(p ˂ 0.001) in favor of group A.
Conclusion: Using Kinesio taping and stretching exercises for 48 hours has resulted in a statistically noticeable reduction in calf cramp discomfort as measured by the cramp visual analog scale , especially in pregnant women.
