Abstract

In this study, three aquatic plants Azolla , Duckweed and Water Lettuce (Azolla pinnata, Lemna minor and Pistia stratiotes) were obtained from the Department of Microbes, Land and Water Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, Giza, and were used to remove heavy metals iron, zinc and lead. This study reported on three aquatic plants ( Azolla , Duckweed and Water Lettuce) during four different initial concentrations (0-25-50-100 ppm) for 20 days under greenhouse conditions from the results obtained in each of the three plants ( Azolla , Duckweed and Water Lettuce), it was found that the removal efficiency of (iron, zinc and lead) in each of (Azolla andDuckweed)where the removal efficiency ranged between 60 to 90% and during a period of 5, 10 and 20 days. Duckweed recorded the highest removal percentage As for (Azolla), it recorded the highest removal efficiency in both zinc and lead between (84% and 79%) respectively during 20 days. The annual cost of a cubic meter of treated polluted water with (Azolla andDuckweed) it was found that 6.90 and 7.50 L.E./m3.
