This study aims to read the poetry of Abu Nawas through the mechanisms of the theory of receptivity and to find different readings from the previous readings, which diverged from the purposes of literature and art, and did not seek technical development in the structure and content of poetic works and their deep philosophy, which requires clarifying their content and meanings, and this is what I relied on The receptivity theory, which aims to create multiple readings of literary texts, especially those that have aroused widespread controversy and unfairness among those who recipients.
This thesis consisted of three chapters presented by an introduction to the cultural formation of Abu Nawas’s poetry, an introduction to the theory of receptivity and a conclusion in which the research findings were summarized.
The first chapter: Cultural awareness and the horizon of expectation: Through the elements of this chapter, the researcher discussed the culture that was entrenched in the minds of the recipients and formed the horizon of their expectation, and through it they interpreted the meanings of Abu Nawas’s poetry, and through these meanings they issued judgments on him that reached accusing him of blasphemy, heresy and immorality.
As for the second chapter : the ancients receiving the poetry of Abu Nawas and breaking the horizon of expectation: Through the elements of this chapter, the researcher discussed how Abu Nawas’s poetry represented a break in the horizon of the ancients ’expectation on the level of the poem’s structure, content, purposes and articulation, but rather exceeded what the ancients considered a rebellion on the artistic and tribal foundations And the moral nature of the Arab society, and as a result he received more accusations such as populism, in addition to heresy and immorality.
Chapter Three: Receiving the poetry of Abu Nawas in the light of modern theories: The researcher discussed through the elements of this chapter the philosophy of the hierarchy while carrying out the rulings of the former, as every awareness and horizon related to the prevailing culture of his time, and the recipients in the modern era have fallen into the use of psychological theories to read the poetry of Abu Nawas Dr. Al-Noihi and Professor Al-Akkad adopted this to accuse him of narcissism and Oedipism, as well as social and historical theories that mixed and consisted with previous rulings that relied on conflicting ideologies in the past, as Dr. Taha Hussein saw that Abu Nawas tends to populism and belittles the Arabs, then the researcher applies what The receptive theory relies on him to emphasize the poet’s ability and the multiple meanings that his poetry contains to produce new readings that correspond to that literary ability of a great poet with deep thought such as Abu Nawas, applying models from his poetry and reaching the meanings of his verses, which remained buried and confined by the merging of successive horizons in time with The contemporary horizons of the poet and the adoption of the unjustified aversion and unfairness that it carried with modern times.
Conclusion: It included a summary of the findings in terms of the importance of having new and multiple readings of literary texts apart from traditional criticism and psychological and social theories, removing unfairness and accusations from great poets such as Abu Nawas, and the existence of readings that rise to the concept and value of artistic works.
