Abstract Purpose to evaluate the utility of ultrasound-guided tattooing localization of the non-palpable breast lesions with carbon suspension. Methods this study is a prospective analysis study for 35 patients with main age about 49.7± 8 years old which had non-palpable breast lesions for pre-operative localization at the period from December 2020 to December 2022. Results 35 female patients with mean age 49.7± 8 years had 35 non-palpable breast lesions seen at upper outer quadrant in 14 patient (40%), retro-areolar region at 11 patient (31.4%), lower outer quadrant in 4 cases (11.6%), lower inner quadrant in 3 patients (8.6%) and upper inner quadrant in 3 patients (8.6%). The lesions size ranged 10-22 mm with mean size about 15±3 mm. The localization procedure take time ranging from 20-30 minutes with mean time about 24.1 minutes. The duration of the charcoal localization before operation ranging from one day to 5 days with mean time about 1.8 days. The main complication noted by the charcoal localization technique is pain. Pain was associated with 11.4% of all studied cases while 88.6% had no complications. The localization by charcoal suspension was effective in 33 cases (94.3%), while only 2 cases could not be localized (5.7%). Conclusion Charcoal localization technique by time has increasing its role as localizer in non-palpable breast lesions due to its efficacy, availability and price in comparison to other localization methods. In our study, localization of non-palpable breast lesion under US Guidance by Injection of charcoal Solution is a very simple, safe and accurate method. Time interval between localization and surgical excision gave chance for better preparation and cooperation between radiologist and surgeon. |
