Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) refers to mothers
providing only breast milk for their infants without any other
liquids or solids. There is evidence supporting the benefits of
EBF for infants, children and mothers. Globally, no more
than 35% of infants during their first four months of life are
exclusively breastfed. Regarding Arabic world, Exclusive
breastfeeding rates increased by 10% over the past decade
especially in Syria and Egypt. The world health organization
(WHO) recommends exclusive breast feeding for the first six
months of life while it is advised to provide adequate and
safe complementary foods with breast feeding for up to two
years and beyond.. Exclusive breast feeding protected against
serious morbidities in the first six months of life (Agho et al.,
2019).
