Abstract

This study aimed to explore the effect of a program based on the systemic approach for developing EFL secondary stage students’ writing skills and reducing their writing apprehension. To meet this end, the study adopted the experimental design (The pretest-posttest control group design). The experimental group studied the suggested training program based on the systemic approach and the control one studied in the regular method of teaching in the regular class. The study utilized a writing skills checklist, a writing skills test, a scoring rubric for the writing skills test, and a writing apprehension test (The Daly-Miller Test or the Writing Apprehension Test (WAT)). The study participants were 66 first-year secondary school students at Abu Bakr Essidik Language School, Obour City Qalyubia Governorate who were randomly assigned into two groups, the experimental group (N=34) and the control group (N=32) after excluding frequent absence from both intact classes. The data analysis revealed the effect of the proposed systemic approach-based program in developing writing skills (content, organization, grammar vocabulary and mechanics of writing) and reducing writing apprehension.
