Abstract

Background:Emotional intelligence (EI) as non-academic skills is emerging as a critical factor for sustaining high academic achievement of the students. Aim: The aim of the current study was to explore emotional intelligence and its relation to academic achievement among undergraduate nursing students. Design: A correlational cross-sectional study design was conducted to achieve the aim of the present study. Setting: This study was conducted at Faculty of Nursing - Cairo University, which located on the campus of Cairo University Hospitals. Sample:a convenience sample (610) of nursing students all over the four academic years at the faculty of nursing was used. Tools: data were collected by using Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and The auditing checklist scale. Results: The results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference among all responses of the study participant{u2019}s regarding emotional intelligence dimensions and there were insignificant relationship found between emotional intelligence and academic achievement among the all the studied sample all over four academic years Recommendations: The current study recommended that nursing curricula need, to incorporate the competencies associated with Emotional intelligence (EI) into the program outcome, training should be conducted to improve the students emotional intelligence. Also, additional research about emotional intelligence and its relation to academic achievement of masters and doctoral nursing students should be done
