Abstract

This study was carried out at Giza agric. res. Station and lab. of seed technology Dept. Field crops. res. Instit., A.R.C during two successive seasons (2011 / 2012 and 2012 / 2013) to evaluate eight genotypes (sakha 3, sakha 1, sakha 2, Giza 10, strain 22, strain 11, strain 402/1 and Strain 2465 /1/3) released by fiber crop res. Dept compared in relation to yield, yield components and seed quality under two sowing dates (5th November and 5th December). The obtained data indicated that the first sowing date (5th November) gave the highest averages for most characters under study i.e., plant height, technical length, straw yield / plant as well as per fed., fiber yield / fed., fiber length, total fiber percentage, number of capsules/plant, number of seeds/capsule, seed index, seed yield / plant, seed yield / fed, oil yield / fed, germination percentage, accelerated ageing germination, seed vigor index and seedling characters in both seasons. Results revealed that there were significant differences in seed viability characters in both seasons except seed vigor index (first season) and all seed chemical characters (both seasons) except oil percentage in (first season). Results showed significant differences among the flax genotypes. Giza 10 surpassed the other genotypes in plant height, technical length, straw yield / plant, straw yield per fed, fiber length, total fiber percentage and carbohydrate percentage in both seasons. On the other hand, in both seasons strain 22 gave the highest values in oil yield / fed and oil percentage. Sakha 2, strain 2465/1/3 and strain 22 achieved the highest value in number of capsules / plant, number of seeds/capsule and seed yield/plant and per fed in both seasons.
