Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to assess if it is enough to use a biphasic alloplastic grafting material that hardens in situ for horizontal ridge augmentation at anterior maxilla when done simultaneously with early implant placement (4-8 weeks after extraction) without using any biological barrier membranes.
Methodology: A total of 8 patients who were selected randomly from the outpatient clinic of Implantology department with deficient (<1mm) or absent facial plate of bone related to non-restorable maxillary anterior teeth. After extraction and healing period of 4-8 weeks, all patients had a horizontal ridge augmentation with EthOss®* grafting material simultaneously with implant placement without using any barrier membranes.
Results: all implants were successfully osseointegrated with intact facial plate of bone except two implants had shown only a crestal bone loss.
At the crestal level; there was no statistically significant change in median labio-palatal bone width after three months (P-value = 0.556, Effect size = 0.345).
At the middle level; there was a statistically significant increase in median labio-palatal bone width after three months (P-value = 0.018, Effect size = 1.86).
At the apical level; there was a statistically significant increase in median labio-palatal bone width after three months (P-value = 0.007, Effect size = 2.431).
As regards the overall labio-palatal bone width (mean of the three levels); there was no statistically significant change in median labio-palatal bone width after three months (P-value = 0.224, Effect size = 0.75).
There was a statistically significant increase in mean ISQ value after three months (P-value <0.001, Effect size = 1.429).

Conclusion: Horizontal ridge augmentation using a biphasic alloplastic grafting materials consisted of beta tricalcium phosphate and calcium sulphate matrix had shown great results without the need of using any barrier membrane.
