Abstract

.
Several dietary carcinogens have been related to the development of HCC, including nitrosamines. Nitrosamines contribute to form chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and cellular proliferation in response to tissue damage, finally leading to hepatic neoplasia. The toxicity of many nitrosamines in animals and humans is well known, and trace levels of diethylnitrosamine (DEN) in either enteric or oral form can induce serious liver impairment.
Curcumin, a dietary spice extracted from Curcuma longa (Turmeric), has been one of the most widely discussed antioxidants due to the multiple health advantages that have been investigated and recognized by numerous scientists. Aside from its liver and kidney-protective properties, curcumin has been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, immune-modulatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties. So, the aim of this study to investigate the protective effect of curcumin against DENA induced liver injury in rats.
In conclusion, Curcumin protects the liver of rats from injury induced by nitrosamine through regulating hepatic inflammation and lowering hepatic oxidative stress, according to the findings of this study. Curcumin reduces free radicals, improves liver function, and improves hepatic marker enzymes, so this study recommended the use of Curcumin.
