The current study aims to identify the impact of the population movement on the formation of urbanization patterns, and trends of that movement, in addition to monitoring the manifestations of urban deterioration, and the size of urban growth within the city of Giza. The theory of the smart city, the theory of the ecological city, and finally the theory of the stages of urbanization, and the study monitored the initial predications as three concepts: the concept of urbanization, the concept of population movement, and housing mobility. The study relied on the descriptive analytical approach and the historical approach, using a set of tools such as the questionnaire, interview guide, quality of life index scale, observation, modern geographic techniques ArcMap, and the scale for application on a sample of 300 household heads in three regions, namely Saft El Laban and El Motadalyah. The study concluded that the Giza city has witnessed during the past two decades many changes at the spatial level of the urban mass, where the urban expansion of the urban space of the governorate extended from 92.6 km in 2000 to 113,5 km in 2010, and the growth increased to record its highest rates in 2020 to reach 127 km. The population movement on which the urban expansion is based increased its rates in the outskirts of the city and took three forms: the movement of rural blocks to the outskirts of the cities, the movement of urban population blocks to the outskirts of the cities, and the movement of rural expansion towards the cities. While there are multiple factors responsible for shaping the decision of the population movement at the urban level, namely: high population growth rates, family life represented by the desire to live next to the family, benefit from city services, and the economic dimension of the family. The urban expansion in the suburbs has created a distorted pattern of urbanization characterized by a number of features, including the irregular shape of the urban structure, poor performance of the infrastructure, and the per capita share of street space, intersection of streets randomly, which led to the emergence of manifestations of urban deterioration through The spread of some of the following problems: the increase in the severity of environmental pollution in its various forms and the morphological change of the city, the lack of educational and health public services and public utilities, the growth of new models of crime, the exacerbation of social problems such as the upholding of individual values, and the low rates of social solidarity.
