Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of dextrose 5% Prolotherapy for musculoskeletal pain in patients suffering from myofascial pain syndrome.Methodology: The study was conducted on twenty patients complaining of myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome group I: (Dextrose group) patients were received 3 injections of 2ml 5% dextrose injected into trigger points of myofascial muscles and tendons , at the beginning of the study , after 3 weeks and at 6 weeks . group II: (saline group) or placebo group; the patients were received 3 injection of 2 ml placebo saline solution injected into trigger points of myofacial muscles , at the beginning of the study , after 3 weeks and at 6 weeks .Results: Results of the present study showed clinical disappearance of pain, increased interincisal distance and improvement of lateral extrusive movements in all patients . Conclusion : Dextrose 5% injection in the masseter muscles could be considered a successful treatment option for myofascial pain dysfunction syndrome |
