المستخلص

Migration has been presiding the headlines in the past few years. It is a process that should move smoothly, without causing problems. However, this was not the case with the unprecedented flow of migrants to the EU after the Arab Spring. It left its impact in the division of the EU, as well as other implications.
The research question for this study focuses on testing if the work of the institutions was according to the various EU treaties, which would show the criterion of efficiency.
To answer the research question, the study was divided into three chapters, as follows: Chapter One is entitled “EU Migration Legal Framework”, Chapter Two is “Migration and the EU Member States” and Chapter Three is “Political Factors Affecting the Migration Crisis”.
Several factors intertwined together in the 2015 migration crisis. Starting with the legal framework, it tried to provide a solution to the problem, but still was not effective in managing the problem, as it was supposed by the EU institutions or agencies. The Member states division had affected how the EU managed the problem, even it was reflected in the application of the EU regulations and decisions issued by the EU institutions. Furthermore, the political aspects revealed how they had intervened in the inefficiency of the institutions in handling the crisis.
It has been proven that the crisis had several factors affecting the means that the EU institutions handled the crisis through it. Those factors, mentioned in the study, were various and could not be studied separately, rather they were a cause and effect for each other. This is due to the complexity of the subject of the study.
