Abstract

Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease that significantly decreases the physical and psychological quality life of affected patients. Aim: This study aimed to assess health related quality life for patient with psoriasis. Design: a descriptive explorative design was utilized to achieve the study aim. Setting: The Out-Patient clinic of kafr Elsheikh dermatology hospital/Egypt. Study subject: A Convenience sample of sixty-five patients visited in the previous mentioned setting. Tools: four tools were used for data collection: An interviewing questionnaire, Psoriasis Area, and Severity Index (PASI), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and Psoriasis Disability Index (PDI). Results: 78.5% of the studied patients had satisfactory knowledge about psoriasis, 95.4% of patients had psychological problem, 83.1% of them had financial problem, 55.4% had social problem and Spiritual problem with 13.8%. Conclusion: According to Psoriasis Index disability, more than half of studied patients had extremely Psoriasis disability and less than one quarter of them was very large Psoriasis disability. Also, related Dermatology quality of life, more than half of studied patients was extremely effect of health-related quality of life and about one quarter of them suffered from very large effect on health related quality of life. Recommendations: Health education and instructional booklet should routinely provide at psoriasis centers to improve patient care and prevent complication.
