Abstract

Bad pregnancy outcome is defined as previous unfavorable outcome with more than 2 successive spontaneous miscarriage, history of intrauterine fetal death, neonatal death or congenital anomalies. Celiac disease (CD) is an autoimmune disease triggered by ingestion of gluten and associated with multiple complications in pregnancy. Infectious agents such as Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and Cytomegalovirus (CMV) are considered another possible environmental factor play a role in CD. Viral hepatitis during pregnancy is closely related to high risks of maternal complications. The aim of this study was to assess the relation between CD, CMV and HCV and bad pregnancy outcome. This study was applied on 200 pregnant females and all blood samples were collected in the second trimester of pregnancy and screened for complete blood picture and liver enzyme tests and were screened by ELISA for anti-tissue transglutaminase (tTG) IgA, Anti-HCV and CMV-IgG and IgM. All data was statistically analyzed using SPSS version 19. In our study, the incidence of positive tTG-IgA cases was 1.33% (2/150) and 9.33% (14/150) presented the gray zone (equivocal results) and were detected in the case group while screening of the control group showed negative results. Anti-HCV screening was performed in all cases enrolled in the study and we found 3.33% (5/150) showed positive results and were presented in the case group, while all women screened in the control group showed negative results. Screening of CMV showed 100 % positive serological screening for IgG while we detected 0 % of serological screening for IgM. from our results we found a relation between CD and bad pregnancy outcomes
