Abstract

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on Connectivism Theory and some e-learning platforms in developing EFL oral communication skills for university students. For this purpose, sixty students were randomly selected from Helwan university in Egypt. They were 2nd year, English department students. They were classified into two groups: the experimental group (N=30) who studied the proposed program and the control group (N =30) who studied conventionally. The instruments of the study were designed by the researcher including oral communication skills checklist, a pre/post listening and speaking test to evaluate the students’ development in some listening and speaking skills before and after implementing the proposed program, a scoring scale rubric, a satisfaction questionnaire to determine the students’ views on the program. Students’ mean scores on pre/post-test were statistically analyzed using t-test. The effect size was also specified. Based on the obtained results, it was found that the proposed program based on connectivism theory and some e-learning platforms was effective in developing the required oral communication skills for 2nd year EFL students at Helwan university. Recommendations and suggestions for further studies were provided.
