Abstract
Infertility is a critical issue for couples who suffer from it. It affects their social and psychological lives and exerts a stressful pressure on their relationship. Procreation is a human right. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 16: 1 notes that ―men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion have the right to marry and find another chance to make a family‖. However 1 in 6 couples of any society experiences infertility and about 10% of them need the help of assisted reproductive technology (ART).Infertility as a disease is defined by the failure to conceive and achieve a successful pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse or due to an impaired fertility function of a person‘s capacity to reproduce either as one of the partners or both. (2) The World Health Organization (WHO) was the first to classify infertility as a disease. Many professional international societies including the American Medical Association, the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the International Committee for Monitoring Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ICMART) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) soon followed the acknowledgement.
