Abstract

Field experiments were carried out in the Agricultural Experimental Station of
the Desert Research Center at Khamisa village (29.21֯ N and 25.40֯ E) during two
successive seasons of 2016 and 2017 to study the effect of chemical fertilization
(NPK) and foliar spray of some growth stimulators (lithovit, compost tea and blue
green algae extract) on vegetative growth, chemical composition, essential oil
productivity and active constituents of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus (DC.)
Stapf.) plant under Siwa Oasis conditions.
Individual clumps were divided and rooted slips were cultivated under drip
irrigation system on March 29th and March 5th for the first and second seasons,
respectively. Planting was done 75 cm between the rows and 50 cm between the
plants (11200 plants per feddan).
The fertilization treatments were applied as follows:
1. Applying of full recommended dose of NPK (400 kg ammonium sulphate
(20.5%N), 300 kg calcium superphosphate (15.5%P2O5), 100 kg potassium sulphate
(48%K2O) /feddan/season).
2. Applying of half recommended dose of NPK (200 kg ammonium sulphate +
150 kg calcium superphosphate + 50 kg potassium sulphate/feddan/season). Either
NPK full dose or ½ NPK dose combine with:
1. Non growth stimulators.
2. Application of foliar spray with compost tea.
3. Application of foliar spray with blue green algae extract.
4. Application of foliar spray with lithovit
The experiment was designed as split plot design with 2 factors. NPK doses were
a main plot and growth stimulators as sub plot. Experiment consist of 8 treatments
(2 main plots x 4 sub plots). Each treatment replicated 4 times.
Calcium superphosphate and organic manure (10 m3 compost /feddan applied for
all treatments) were added before planting in each season in only one dose. The used
organic manure was made from plant source. Ammonium sulphate was divided into
three equal doses. The first and second doses were added after 45 and 90 days of
planting date whereas the third one was added two weaks after the first cut. Also,
potassium sulphate was applied in two equal doses after 45 days of planting date and
two weaks after the first cut
